Here is our first look of the 2017 Mongoose Fireball SS.

Complete dirt jumpers are few and far between these days. Of course many riders build up their rides from the ground up and that is fine for experienced riders. But a huge demand for complete dirt jumpers for beginner to intermediate riders exists and it’s great to see brands like Mongoose filling that need! We got our hands on the 2017 Mongoose Fireball SS which is one of the two Dirt Jumper completes that they have available. Check out the Fireball 8 spd here. The Fireball SS is a great bike for beginning to intermediate dirt jumpers who don’t have a couple grand to spend. Regular price on this model is $899 usd but through April 25th it is on sale for $719 over on Amazon. Stay tuned for a full review of the Fireball SS but for now we want to tell you how it felt right out of the box in our first few rides on it…

The Mongoose Fireball SS comes with a KORE Rivera cockpit.

The bike comes pretty well outfitted for a build under a grand. It also looks super sick. The two tone faded finish looks super clean and grabs a lot of attention. Pivotal seat and post are super nice. Suspension is handled by a Manitou Circus Comp with 100mm of travel. The fork had a good adjustment range and felt pretty solid at it’s stiffest setting with 175 to 200 lb riders. It was also nice that it had a thru axle instead of a bolt on axle like many dirt jumpers in this price range. That definitely makes the front end feel nice and stiff and responsive. Braking is handled by a cable disc brake. The cromoly three piece cranks and sprocket look super good and felt solid. Stem, bars and rims are all part of the KORE Rivera dirt jump line and give the Fireball a nice splash of color. The bars were not our favorite. They will hold up fine but we all felt a lower bar would fit the goemetry of the bike better. Speaking of geo here is a run down on it for you…

The geometry of the 2017 Fireball SS and 8 spd.

It’s cool that the Fireball SS also comes setup with an adjustable derailleur hanger/chain tensioner. If you want to turn the Fireball into a dual slalom or 4x bike you can make it happen easily. All in all after spending a few hours on the 2017 Mongoose Fireball SS we were pretty stoked on how it felt and rode in the park and on the local dirt jumps. The only issue we had at all was the bars. But this is a personal preference only the Kore bars felt good and solid. Definitely feel that this bike is a great option for beginning to intermediate riders and if you can get it for about $700 bucks it’s a steal. Stay tuned for a full review of the 2017 Mongoose Fireball SS that will drop soon right here on PSBMX … But first here are some more pics for you…
